Hello again! Returning to you now on a tried and true trend of character introduction – here’s Cleria Nightfang!
While appearing as quite a young and promiscuous girl, Cleria is a vampire noble from Lysvid with a penchant for violence and slaying werewolves. While she’s quite secretive about the darker aspects of her past, she joins our heroes for a time in Act Three: Trickster!
When our heroes first arrive in Lysvid under the behest of their new friend Loki, they happen upon an intense situation where a Warg – a feral werewolf bred for war – broke into the city. Their careful and effective methods of dispatching it draw the attention of Cleria, a werewolf hunter at the time, who decides to offer them work. Although things obviously go awry, Cleria leaves the heroes with her friend and a fellow pupil of the Timeless One, Rex Dougo, to reunite with them later.
After the Timeless Castle, a bit of light is cast upon Cleria when they encounter her ex-boyfriend, leader of Lysvid’s Ritual Cult, Gale Destrow – who basically believes Ryoku and the others are a walking snack. She hints at some drama behind the end of their relationship, but otherwise is happy to help Loki wipe the smirk off his face.
Returning to play a more active role in Act Eight: Conquer, Cleria saves quite a lot of her backstory and involvement with the enigmatic Timeless One for future reading in Sovereign Soul: the Serpentine Empire. What led the vampire girl to land among the damaged pupils of the Timeless Castle? What is her involvement with a certain gun-slinging Defender? And have we seen the last of her demented ex-boyfriend?
Cleria has been a consistent character for many of my versions of Akin Minds – except for very early edits where her appearance was replaced by Vaseul Granitetooth, a more sullen vampire male. She always dresses in such a way to capture the eye and leave little to the imagination, as a female’s greatest technique involves luring in their prey. Her primary weapon is her own claws, capable of cutting even hardy vampires to ribbons.
Her greatest strengths, however, might lie in her connections. Connecting the Timeless Castle to the higher noble families of Lysvid, and holding some very interesting and powerful friendships, Cleria might play an important role in connecting some final dots.
