Now to talk about an important character of both comedic and prophetic value – the Timeless One!
The master of an old castle in Xactyr, the Timeless One is known as a friendly face and a keeper of lost souls. For a vampire, he’s comedically short at about three feet tall. His true age is unknown, but he appears quite old with velvety-smooth skin, crimson eyes, and favoring tall collars and top hats.
His most present assistant is Relus Ashbane, a bespectacled, quiet vampire who frequently has to correct the Timeless One’s speech blunders, frequently mixing up his own idioms. Though the basis of their connection is unknown, what is known is that the Timeless One takes in lost souls. Many who have strayed from their purpose and seeking a reason to continue frequently end up in his care, but they are often free to come and go as they please.
Little is known about the Timeless One’s true past or how long he has stayed in Lysvid, or even his true name. He meets Ryoku in the end of Act Three when Cleria and Rex, two of his other pupils, bring him there after a werewolf attack to be healed. After healing him, the Timeless One offers Ryoku guidance by reintroducing him to his fallen teacher, John Guildford, as a new instructor, and returning the lost and marred sword Ragnarokkr to him. He offers him advice in his quest and eventually sends Rex with him on his continuing venture.
Later, the Timeless One comes to Ryoku’s aid in Syaoto alongside his pupils. He appears to know of Orden quite well and is unsurprised about Advocatos. He stays intermittently through book 2 and later takes on a new pupil, Blanc, the first character who knowingly learns his true name.
The Timeless One surprisingly has decent combat skills and proves able to hold his own in many fights, even using a black sword about the same height as him. He may have magical talent, but much of his time is spent on the sidelines as a mentor and training the other characters to their best potential. Surely, though, his true powers remain to be seen.
