Orden, the Dark Empire

Orden is led by a family that values sword skills before table manners. It is ruled by a single emperor – no council, no advisors, etc.. The emperor will keep only their general and usually a set of vassals from other worlds who vow allegiance. Magic is confined only to the Royal Family and their vassals. Otherwise, punishable by death. To the people, the royal family is seen as extreme and driven, but not ‘bad.’

People from Orden are known to be ‘a little messed up.’ The world experiences severe storms, commonly lethal, and the northern snowstorms are even worse. Gothic structures, enormous cities, dense rainforests, and expanses of desert are common aspects of the terrain. The smell of rain is normal. Medicine and technology is quite advanced for its time.

Prominent Locations:

  • Orden Capital: Home of the Ordenstraum family. The walls are made of a reflective black steel, rimmed with spikes. The main streets direct people through the markets and the homes of nobles, but the back streets are slums and patrolled frequently. The markets are huge and crowded. Off the residential road, quality of homes quickly decay past first impressions. Alleyways are slick with grime and graffiti. Crime is common.
  • Ordenstraum Keep: Lair of the Ordenstraum family. Built of stone with many windows, a huge ballroom for nobility, manned by servants with a dungeon bigger than the castle. Central to the keep, the Ordenstraums man the Lion Pits with prisoners battling lions for their lives.
  • The Prancing Bolt: Headquarters of the rebellion, an inn manned by Alphonse Loras and houses Kioru.
  • Renault: Prominent city far to the west of the Capital. Ruled by the rich. Trains connect the districts of the huge city.

Prominent Characters:

  • Kioru Rasale: Leader of the Ordenstraum Rebellion, cousin to the royal family. Used to serve the castle.
  • Sira Jessura: Ex-knight of Orden, one of the vassals.
  • Chris Olestine: Prisoner of Orden, connected to Ryoku. Imprisoned for the murder of Vincent’s mother.
  • Roxanne Mercy: Vassal of Vincent.
  • Vincent Ordenstraum: Once emperor of Orden. Violet eyes. An accomplished dark knight unbested in combat.
  • Kimo Goldenhart: Soldier of Orden, a vassal. Wields the Goldenhart sword. Demon called Romis.
  • Belto Rasale: Kioru’s cousin, an archer and rebel.
  • Lars Ordenstraum: Cruel-hearted and sociopathic emperor, son of Vincent and Sira.

  • Proudclaw: One of the lions in the pits. Recognizable by a deformity in his dominant paw. Larger than the rest.
  • Chalun: Scientist and doctor in the keep, a secret mage.

  • Alphonse Loras: Innkeeper of the Prancing Bolt.
