Today, I’m going to be talking about the editing history of Akin Minds. Some readers might be familiar with the long, winding history of this particular book. Some may not.
In fact, Akin Minds, book one of the Sovereign Soul series, is a published novel. I published the book in October 2013 under simply Akin Minds. The series title of Sovereign Soul is a newer update which came with the release of the new cover. I also put out the sequel, Akin Minds: Hierarchy of Lars.
So why republish my book six years later?
Akin Minds only sold about 100 copies and is unavailable to purchase regularly in bookstores. Due to a (poor) publishing package with Xlibris, it would cost me a great deal to make the book available in stores. A recurring fee, of course. So I found a publisher who will readily offer the book’s availability in stores. My new publisher is Tellwell, located locally to me. I’ve already paid all fees to them in terms of republishing my book. Meaning, the only thing currently holding me back is my edit.
Since I paid extra to republish my book, I’ve taken the liberty of making it better than it ever was. Essentially, Sovereign Soul: Akin Minds is a new book. The purpose is much clearer. Characters exist vibrantly compared to before. Key elements of the story have changed. The page count has soared from 476 to currently sit at 599! It may seem like overkill, but the increase in pages has given the story an entirely new shine that makes it a different story than ever before.
I don’t recommend picking up the original unless somebody enjoyed the novelty for some reason. The editing is poorly done with some typos still existing in the published works. The new version is more carefully revised and scanned for such simplistic errors – I’ll actually be talking about some of those in upcoming posts. For now, I’ll let this sit. Again, if anyone has any questions, please shoot! I’m happy to share my experiences and explore the world of Sovereign Soul.
